Majapahit Information Center

Students and lecturers of Archeology Department of UGM protested the establishment of the Majapahit Information Center, or also known as Trowulan Information Center (TIC), even though the government is now halting the establishment process. They said that the establishment of the TIC is damaging the Trowulan site and also violating the procedure since there was no research before the government conducted the establishment process.

The head of Archeology Department FIB UGM Prof Inajati Adrisijanti in the midst of the protest on Saturday (10/1) said that the government should move the TIC from Trowulan site. He admitted that TIC will be useful, but the government should establish TIC outside of Trowulan site, since there are so many valuable historical assets.

UGM’s Archeologist Dr Daud Aris Tanudirjo also agreed that the main mistake in the TIC establishment is that there was no archeology research conducted before the government started the process of establishment. He also added that even though government has halted the process, the damage caused by the misplaced pillars cannot be ignored.

Meanwhile the protest action coordinator Helmi anwar in his oration urge the government to review the TIC establishment policy, and to take the responsibility of the damaged site. After protesting at the Tugu Monument, the protest convoy marched to Vredeburg Fortress and ended the action by signing a sympathy banner.
